A brilliant, full moon commanded my attention as I drove home last Sunday. I’d been in Bonne Terre, Missouri that morning where I’d led worship, sang, and shared some of my testimony. The three days preceding that, I spent time learning, co-writing, getting to know other writers, music publishers and producers, and truly experiencing God’s presence at the Write About Jesus Workshop, an intense 3-day training for Christian songwriters.
That big, bright moon was particularly stunning against the dark sky along that country road. I’d tried to photograph the moon so many other times, but it always turned out fuzzy. Although my naked eye could see the clarity of the craters, with yellow, white and cool gray hues, my camera could never capture those details. Deciding to try one more time, I pulled over to the side of the road, put on my hazard lights, and got out of my van.
With camera in hand and a quick prayer, I began shooting the moon… one more time.
The first few shots (set on “automatic”) resulted in the same disappointing, frustrating shots I’d had many times before. Then I turned it to the “creative shot” mode, and it gave me various versions of the same-old fuzzy moons. I was certain that there must be a way to do this right, I just didn’t know how. I knew there are other “real” photographers in the world that could tell me instantly what I was doing wrong — but they weren’t there, seeing what I was seeing. This was my moment, and I was frustrated that I couldn’t fully embrace it. I wanted it, I longed for it, I made several valiant efforts over the years to experience it. But I never could attain my goal – a clear picture of what I’d envisioned with my own eyes many times, and to be able to share this gift with others.
Finally, about to give up, I turned the dial to “Manual” mode. The screen instructed me to “select aperture and shutter speed” — which I did not know how to do, nor did I have time to learn, there on that dark highway. I just began shooting. What I saw stunned me — after all this trying! The moon was as big and clear as my eyes had witnessed! I couldn’t believe it!
In that moment, I sensed the Holy Spirit of God speaking to my heart. He said, “Becky, you’re about to see things in the coming days that you’ve never witnessed before. Answered prayers, realized dreams, unimaginable things — all from My hand.”
My weekend had been filled with divine appointments, getting to co-write with legends like Carolyn Cross, who with her husband Phil Cross, are the writers of numerous #1 gospel songs. These new friendships and collaborations left my mind spinning and heart overflowing. Seeing God move in the church service that morning was truly a blessing and an encouragement. Penny, the pastor’s wife, told me that an older woman who’s daughter had died, came to church that morning for the first time in a year. Penny said that God sent me there to share my testimony and help that woman, if no one else. Pastor Steve told the congregation: “Becky Wright did not bring mere ‘entertainment’ this morning; this is ministry. We’re heard from God today through her.”
Two days after I arrived home, I received an email with the most astounding news. I had entered my new worship album into the Independent Music Awards, an international competition with thousands of entries from almost 100 countries on six continents. My album was named an “official nominee”, in the final top five entries of the Gospel/Contemporary Christian Category! I was therefore invited to attend the Awards Show at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City!! I was completely stunned, given the hundreds of entries in my category alone. God is Sovereign, and He is, once again, ordering my steps and taking me places I never dreamed, to shine His light to many more people.
More importantly than any “ministry” or “career opportunity”, what God has done even over the last 24 hours astounds me, and I am remembering what the Lord spoke seven days ago today: “Becky, you’re about to see things in the coming days that you’ve never witnessed before. Answered prayers, realized dreams, unimaginable things — all from My hand.”
As a mom and grandmother, my heart is heavy, knees calloused, and prayers constant for our children and grandchildren. Marriages are hurting and threatening to dissolve, attacks coming from the enemy of our souls who desires nothing more than to tear families apart, leaving innocent (and guilty) casualties in the wake. These are the things that keep me on my knees, and (frankly) keep me grounded in what’s really most important to me: for my children to truly know the love of God in their lives. I desire for them to walk in God’s richest blessings, beyond just money to pay the bills (although that, too), but to develop committed, joyful relationships, for protection and wisdom as they raise their children, and all those good things that God designed for them (and their momma and daddy want for them, too!)
I saw glimpses of God’s power and love breaking through this weekend, with very critical and specific answers to prayer for some of our children! I cried happy tears as I witnessed it happen! Things we feared were dead and hopeless came to life again, and we saw fruits of our prayers and floods of God’s mercy and love and power pouring down! My greatest prayer is for my children to know how much God loves them (even more than I love them!) and to walk in the fullness of His love and blessing for them, just as they desire good things for their own little ones.
If I die tomorrow and never write another blog, sing another song, or live to give them another hug, I want them to know the God who created and loves them — enough to die for them.

Ephesians 3:17-19 Common English Bible (CEB)
17 I ask that Christ will live in your hearts through faith. As a result of having strong roots in love, 18 I ask that you’ll have the power to grasp love’s width and length, height and depth, together with all believers. 19 I ask that you’ll know the love of Christ that is beyond knowledge so that you will be filled entirely with the fullness of God.”
“Thank You, Father, for letting me see — and capture on camera — that stunning full moon. More than that, thank You for speaking to my heart, and always keeping Your promise! Please speak to the hearts of each of our children, and let Your love spill into their lives in ways they cannot deny. Bless them as only You can, Lord. Amen!”
